Beneath the detritus of a dead world, symbolized by a vacuum cleaner, a coffee pot, a garden gnome, an astronaut's glove, and a UFO, the new world, represented by an African American baby girl, is in the process of birthing. At the stroke of midnight of each New Year, the artist updates the year in the title of the piece. She will continue to do so until the world is finally reborn. O let it be soon.

This drawing was an exercise from the book Drawing Thought by Andrea Kantrowitz. The artist drew a squiggley line all over the paper, then proceeded to fill in whimsical faces, patterns, and forms in a joyful and spontaneous manner.
